In the Community

In any given month, Van can usually be spotted helping out at community outreach events organized by non-profit organizations, universities, or the bar association.  When she is not out and about, she may be counseling walk-in clients at either the Maryland Immigrant Rights Coalition (MIRC) at the University of Maryland School of Law in Baltimore, MD, or at the Maryland Vietnamese Mutual Association (MVMA) in Silver Spring, MD.

She is also a strong advocate of spreading the word about the implications of immigration status and its impacts on other areas of law.  For this reason, as the chairperson for the Community Outreach Committee of the Immigration Law Section, she has been very active in reaching out to other law sections and non-profit service organizations.  The committee has conducted various webinars addressing immigration and employment law, immigration and domestic violence, and immigration and domestic law.  Moreover, to keep the local bar associations abreast of immigration law, Van has presented at various bar association meetings.

Although these activities keep Van quite busy, she continues to accept pro bono cases through MIRC, Catholic Charities, and the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS).
